Native varieties

Varieties such as Sumoll, Xarel·lo Vermell, Malvasia de Sitges take pride of place.

Sumoll

Sumoll

The Sumoll is a rustic variety, indigenous to the Penedès, resistant to drought and with a uniform development. The bunches are long, and the grapes are large and long.
The young wine from the Sumoll grape has a certain roughness, which disappears with ageing. It has low production, and requires a lot of oenological skill to make quality wines.

Xarel·lo

Xarel·lo vermell

This is a traditional variety from Penedès and Camp de Tarragona. The young wine made with Xarel·lo is soft, fresh and fruity, but once aged in barrels, it becomes warm, long and deep.
Its bunches are medium sized and not very compact. The grapes are round, large and thick-skinned. The plant is sensitive to frost and disease. The vines blossom in March (early) and the fruit has a medium ripening period (late August-September).

Malvasia de Sitges

Malvasia de Sitges

Malvasia is a white grape variety, although there is also a red sub-variety. Bunches of Malvasia are small and not very compact. The grape is large, soft and ovoid, very sweet and aromatic.
The wine made with this grape variety is also called Malvasia, or Vi de Malvasia, a white, sweet, fragrant wine with a high alcohol content.
